The Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge 2022 will be held from this weekend, and the co-driver from Mendoza, Bruno Jacomy, will be part of the official South Racing team together with the British Thomas Bell.

The race will be valid as the second date of the FIA World Rally Raid Championship (W2RC), which began this year with the Dakar 2022. In the Odyssey, the duo achieved a great seventh place in the Light Prototypes category, highlighting a fourth place in the stage 10 that allowed them to establish themselves in the general classification.

With these results, they arrive at the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge in fifth place in the official classification of the World Rally Raid Championship with 25 points and the opportunity to continue climbing positions. In this contest the results of each stage also add up, as does the final position of the race.

A few hours before the debut, Bruno Jacomy chatted with Somos Dakar and commented on his feelings ahead of a new race: “I am very excited to have the opportunity to be part of this World Rally Raid. I am grateful to the team that trusts me and my conditions; and also with Thomas Bell, who believes in my talent to sail”.

Undoubtedly, the background of the Dakar is still fresh in his memory: “Together we have had an excellent Dakar Rally. We finished in the top 10 in Saudi Arabia, and that excites us to face this date of the World Cup”.

One of the aspects that draws the attention of the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge is the great call from Argentina and especially from the province of Mendoza that traveled to the Middle East to participate in the test.

In that sense, Jacomy expressed: “I am also happy to be able to share this experience with a large number of Argentines and Mendoza who are participating in these international competitions. This really builds pride and motivation.”

In addition to Bruno, his countrymen Sebastián Halpern and Ronnie Graue will participate in cars, while Franco Caimi and Stefano Caimi will do so on motorcycles. There will also be the presence of Kevin and Luciano Benavides from Salta, and in UTV will be the Argentines Diego Martínez and Santiago Hansen.

Returning to the race, it will undoubtedly be an extra motivation for Jacomy to be able to participate in the World Championship with a top-level structure: “Regarding the race, everything is ready. I thank the team. South Racing is always impeccable in its assistance work. I thank Thomas Bell for trusting my attributes and conditions as a sailor. We are waiting for many kilometers of dunes and above all with the illusion of being able to enjoy it to the fullest and motivated to have the opportunity to participate in the World Rally Raid”, reflected the Argentine.

The Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge will have a total of five stages of pure navigation in the desert of the United Arab Emirates. The stages will take place from March 5 to 10, with a short shakedown on the 4th.
